Which one would you buy? Breedlove Pro vs. Cascade Series
Hello,
I went to the Guitar Center around my house today and saw two guitars that I liked.
#1. Breedlove Pro Series C25/CR Herringbone w/ Hard shell case: List price $2269.00, Sales price (Clearance) $999.00
#2. Breedlove Cascade Series C25/CRe w/ Hard shell case: List price $1739.00, Sales price $1299.00
I play contemporary christian music at my church every week. The sales guy was very knowledgeable and successfully convinced me to go home with #2. But although I know the pro series has been discontinued, I keep thinking about #1 and am going to go back just to check it out again since I have 30 days to return or exchange.
Which one would you buy and why?
Thanks for your help!

It should be the one that feels & sounds good when you try it out, & then haunts you when you put it away. Sounds like you need to go back for the Pro!
I think they should be almost the same guitar, aside from the differences any individual will have from its siblings. Pro is probably older.

No brainer! The Pro... but that's just me. Probably a bit more commission in the Cascade but you won't see any of that anyhow.

I haven't played the Cascade series. And Mando is correct. Buy the one that speaks to you.
Having said that, if the Pro is one of the last of the series built, it is more than likely an all American made guitar. When they discontinued the Pro series, they simply stopped making them in Asia. They filled the remaining orders by having the American division complete the rest of the guitars. So it is very likely that the guitar you are looking at is an all American made guitar. That's something to consider.
So how do you tell the difference? Simply look at the location of the "B" inlay on the head-stock. If it is above the D and G string tuners, it is a hybrid Asian/American build.
If the B inlay is just below the D and G string tuning posts, it is an American built instrument.
Either way, you should use your ears, not your eyes to make a decision when buying any instrument. At least that's my opinion.

Thanks Mando.
O-man- The necks used in thier Asian plant always had the logo above the D and G string tuning posts. All the Atlas and Passport series still do.The new Cascade series do as well. The American made guitars (and thier necks) always have had the logo below the same tuning posts. I believe this was done intentionaly by Breedlove, to give a visual clue as to the guitars build origin. Now this is before the TOH aquisition. I'm not sure if it will remain the same or not.
I'm a detail guy I guess. Always have been.

Re: Which one would you buy? Breedlove Pro vs. Cascade Series
I was just thinking about the B'Love sale to the "Hippies".
Since I became interested in the "Bend" brand I have had trouble figuring out the model designations (re: the CM, American, Cascade, Pro, etc.). The letter designators seem to make sense and are consistent (C25/CR etc.). I just wonder if TOH will do the brand a favor and define the price points better. It would appear that they have settled on 6 generic models (Master Class, American, Cascade, Atlas, Passport, and Passport Plus) but are they going to stay there? I understand that Atlas, Passport and Plus have Korean roots but what about the Cascade?
Would it hurt if Breedlove just came out and said where the guitar was manufactured? For the longest time the "Pro-" Series was touted as being American "made" when it was only 60% "made in America". I think the "hippies" might be able to promote more transparency.
Only an opinion but it's MINE!

I thought the old system, with Atlas, Revival, Performance, & Master Class, was fairly straightforward, but they keep confusing it more all the time.

Breedlove Pro D25 SRH
I did a lot of research on the Pro Series D25 guitars and the whole issue of made in the shop in Bend, OR or made in Korea and "set up" in Bend, OR. It seems when the Pro Series was shipped off to to be made in Korea and then sent back to Bend, Breedlove "set up" the guitar made in Korea and yet put made in the USA on the label inside the Guitar. Breedlove caught quite a bit of heat over this and ended up discontinuing the Pro Series. The previous poster is correct that if the Breedlove logo is below the top two tuners more in the middle of the headstock, these were made 100% in the shop in OR and much more valuable than the one's with the logo near the top of the headstock. I recently found one, Pro Series D25 SRH, (H is for Herringbone) pretty much new with the plastic stick on film still on the pick guard. Paid 1700.00 and took it to a group class I drop in on now and then and a guy begged me to sell it to him for 2000.00. I am not much of a player as I just started as an adult, but playing the other guitars of people in the group tells me this is a dream instrument. So, if you ever find one with the logo more in the middle, check it out.
