510 Plattenburg (Okay, Okay, no singing!!!)
The end of the street where I grew up in Winchester Tennessee was a dead end. Well, for cars it was. There was a steep hill at the end. I mean steep like you had to go down it in a squat, with your hands on either side in case you lost your balance. At the bottom of the hill there were train tracks. I would meet up with my friends there most everyday. It was from there we would start our adventures. This song is about those adventures.
To quote the movie Stand By Me; "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?"
I hope you enjoy it, and that maybe it takes you back to some of your adventures.

Tele, that was very nice, in fact I think it is one of your better original songs. Now, if there was a way we could post our songs (Word doc?), that would be helpful for all of us to share our ideas of music.
On another note, can you describe the picking pattern you used on this song?
Thanks! NW Harry

What do you mean "no singing"? It sang for me. I liked it a lot Tele. Something in there remided me of Ed Gerhard. Nice job.

Thanks Harry!
You mean post our songs as in the score? I'm not sure I understand. The score for 510 Plattenburg is available in standard notation and or tab. (Anyone interested can PM me.)
Not to sound obtuse, but there is no pattern. Other than the alternating bass, I just pick out the rest of what I hear. I'm fond of repeating musical phrases when I write, but I guess you'll have to be more specific for me to give a better answer!
BTW- we need to catch up with a phone call my friend...........................

Thanks Bill! That was well said!
(Is it wrong that I know the Ed Gerhard guitar but not the player?)

Tele, if you don't know Ed Gerhard you're missing out on some good music. I believe Ed is out of New Hampshire. He's a great instrumentalist. He has his own take on covers as well as writing his own music. The music can be anything from blues to contemporary fingerstyle to slide to slack key. He teamed up with Breedlove for his namesake guitar. They also have worked up a Weisenborn type slide guitar. Check him out, I think you'd enjoy it.

Hey Bill,
I do know who he is, I just haven't heard much of his music. Seems nice enough, just not my kind of stuff. Maybe I should pick up one of his CD's. Is there one in particular you recommend?

"Luna" is a few years old, but I think it was rated as one of the top x x x (200?) albums by Acoustic Guitar mag. "Sunnyland" (my favorite) is his blues work...and there's a new cd in the final stages of production.

The two I like the best are "The Live Album" and "Sunnyland". The thing with Gerhard is that he plays several styles some of which I really like and others that I don't care for. Both of these cd's have enough variety that I think there's there would be something that would interest you.

Outstanding Tele, outstanding.
And about the quality of friends we had when twelve. Spot on. That's why I still have mine.

I thought of saying more, but more seemed redundant, when "nice" seemed to say it so well.Tele wrote:MandoSquirrel wrote:Nice.

Thanks Blase! My writing is moving in that direction of style, so it's good to hear that.

Really nice, Mark. Singing was missed but not necessary - brings back good memories without being hit on the head with lyrics.

I agree with that. We all have our own childhood memories. Without lyrics we're given the opportunity to fill in the blanks. It goes back to what I may have understated in my earlier post. The songs sings in its own way. Again, nice job!
Tele, did you get my PM the other day? I'm definitely interested in giving it a shot.

Tele,
I just received the score a few minutes ago. I'm already having fun with it. It's too bad I'm at the office playing a guitar when I should be working. Don't tell my boss. Wait a minute, that would be me! And for sure don't tell my wife I'm having fun at work or she'll add a few items to the "honey do" list.
Thanks again for sharing. It's a great tune.
