She's a classic clip ain't she PR bro? Elvin Jones on drums is in another galaxy far far away it appears as is naturally John. Shame cirrhosis took him so young. I think he was 42 or less when he died. hailed out of Philly and played so much to practice it was beyond belief. What an innovator and can you imagine the mind he must have had to make those melodies? I wish, I wish...This is my favorite song ever recorded. No contest. Next would be everything from the Sketches of Spain recordings by Miles and Gil Evans.

O-man, i have sketches of spain on vinyl and it's one of the most well worn of them all. I love it. All of the Coltrane and Miles stuff (also on vinyl) is just magic. For me, as much as I love Coltrane, I can't get enough of Miles (except for Doo-bop, I don't know what happened there). We are in total agreement on the Gil Evans/Miles Davis pairing. It's like peanut butter and chocolate only way more cool.

Miles kicked Trane out of the quintet a few times for coming to set practice a bit tipsy if you will. He'd just send him home when he spotted it. Miles was very strict back then and a perfectionist to the nth as you can even see by how he dressed so amazingly tailored and coooool all the time for the era he was in. Trane never did really make it back into the tet but that was Miles' loss cuz' Trane took off into the wild Blue yonder of amazing yet far out composition and improvisation with the likes of Eric Dolphy on flute, clarinets; Alice Coltrane on keys, Pharoh Sanders a bit I believe and more. Trane was cooler than Miles, very peaceful and gentle. Much more spiritual. Well, he had to be, he probably knew his life would be cut short cuz his liver was becoming toast and from the looks of him, he wasn't afraid to eat a good meal. I miss him being on the planet. Always will. I feel like I know him from somewhere.
